Matsusaka City Museum of History and Folklore

Discover the rich history and culture of Matsusaka at the Matsusaka City Museum of History and Folklore, located within the picturesque Matsusaka Castle Ruins. The building, constructed in 1912, originally served as a local library, and its charming architecture reflects its historical significance. 

On the first floor, you'll find fascinating exhibits showcasing tools and everyday items used by the people of Matsusaka in the past, offering insight into their daily lives. Don't miss the replica of the helmet of Gamo Ujisato, the revered lord of Matsusaka Castle.

The second floor is dedicated to the legendary film director Ozu Yasujiro, widely regarded as one of the greatest masters of cinema in history. Having spent his formative years in Matsusaka, Ozu Yasujiro is honored here with an exhibit of his materials and documents, celebrating his contributions to the world of film and providing an intimate look into the life of this visionary artist.
